Dear friends and colleagues the title of this post is not a joke. I feel the need to try to share some information on what is happening in my country, Spain regarding doulas. I have been away from any activism lately and all of the sudden my inbox was getting full with women who asked for my support and the reason was that the College of Nurses in Spain (who also represents midwives as they do not have their own) has published after three years a report called 'Informe Doulas'  (Doula Report) and in it they warn about the risk to the health of mothers and babies that doulas can be. Using an extremely sensationalist and biassed manner in a report that lacks any statistics, bibliography or evidence, they go on to suggests serious things such as: - Obstetric violence is what doulas use to keep mothers from gong to Birth in a hospital - Doulas split families preventing fathers to take part in births - Doulas induce women to cannibalism by making them eat their placent

Me parece tragicómico lo acontecido en España los últimos días. El colegio de enfermería, que además representa a las matronas en España, ya que  por desgracia no tienen Colegio propio, ha emitido un informe,  llamado Informe Doulas en el que como en una película mala de detectives han detallado sus observaciones de este colectivo. Para empezar diré que ya no soy doula, que lo fui, pero que nunca lo he sido en España y que tengo mis propios conflictos con algunas maneras de entender la profesión y practicarla (como ocurre en todos los colectivos, estoy segura). También tengo conflictos por haber estudiado una especialidad (Childbirth education) que no existe en España y que a menudo "usurpan" en donde vivo (Reino Unido) profesoras de yoga, doulas y otras. Pongo comillas porque en realidad no me siento usurpada. Profesionalmente a veces me preocupa porque me cuentan cosas que creo que no son las ideales para decirle a una mujer, que no son información sino propaganda o proyecc
